Annual Report Summarizes 40th Year

(April 2013)

Last year marked NSCLC’s 40th anniversary. While we celebrated that milestone, we also recognized that challenges to the rights of low income older adults to quality health care, economic security or access to the courts have by no means disappeared.

In the past year, NSCLC:

  • Led efforts to ensure consumer protection for the elderly poor as many states seek to move dual eligibles — those with Medicare and Medicaid — into managed care plans
  • Raised Congressional awareness of the need to update the Supplemental Security Income program; a bill will soon be introduced to address the problems we identified
  • Spearheaded a case that will mean that 140,000 people will have at least $1 billion in Social Security and Supplemental Security Income benefits restored
  • Argued effectively that the Affordable Care Act was constitutional as cases made their way to the Supreme Court

Please take a look at the 2012 Annual Report online where you can find stories of older adults who have been helped by our advocacy or litigation, more about our accomplishments, review our financials, and read a thoughtful column by NSCLC Chair Robert Johnson. Both our leadership and I appreciate your ongoing interest and support of NSCLC in 2013.
