Vital Refugee Lifeline Lost — On September 30, 2011, Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits expired for many refugees, asylees and other humanitarian immigrants nationwide. NSCLC has been an integral part of joint advocacy efforts to encourage Congress to act quickly to continue those benefits. Some 4,600 individuals, many of them elderly and disabled, are affected by this lack of action.
