Income Network Alert – Poverty Among Seniors Disproportionately Affects Women
(08/19/2014) Today, of the 15 percent of seniors living in poverty according to the Supplemental Poverty Measure, a disproportionate number are women and people of color. The Supplemental Poverty Measure more accurately accounts for the cost of living for seniors; the Official Poverty Rate among seniors is closer to nine percent.
